Ivana Urgelová

Ivana Urgelová was born on May 27, 1979 in Bratislava. She has tried to capture the beauty of real plants and animals since her childhood, but reality is not enough for her. She elaborates using a rich imagination that sometimes introduces various surrealist and fantastic motifs. Most of her work is based on a similar principle. First, the artist decides on the basic shapes of her drawings that gradually uses a variety of details from nature and plants, that tend to take over the entire surface. They intertwine in strange ornamental structures and affect the overall atmosphere of the work. Sometimes, these works might seem too decorative, but are the result of certain transformations of the objective world and each carry a special inner tension, as if the vegetal and ornamental forms were only a mask, behind which is the artist’s hidden emotions and visions.
