Václav Ryba was born in September 24, 1950 in Horné Zelenice. He studied chemistry and worked as an assistant chemist in Slovnaft, and later moved on to metallurgy in Trnava. In 1989, after the remission of his illness, Václav Ryba began his work as an artist. Currently, his favorite subject matter are small figures in various seasons with thematic variations set within landscapes. He also likes to paint nudes, lovers, coffee and pub scenes, his own dreams and expressive portraits of people sadly influenced by fate and personal tragedy. Melancholy also plays a large role in Václav’s writing. In his short stories, he often looks to his past to provide sanctuary whenever the outside world looses its meaning. He also studies painting – finding inspiration in the work of the French impressionists and of Chagall, Modigliani and Soutine. His work however, is original, exhibiting a unique vision of the world from the point of view of a ‘big child’. Václav lives and works privately in a picturesque environment of Horné Zelenice near Trnava.
